1.25 lakh devotees throng Tirumala in 24 hours
Nearly 1.25 lakh devotees thronged the Tirumala temple in the last 24 hours making it tough for them to get accommodation and have hassle-free darshan.
By Sunday morning, all the compartments in the Vaikuntam Queue Complex were full. It took 15 hours for a general darshan and seven hours for a special entrance. There was a brief respite in the rush on Sunday evening.
The inclement weather in Tirumala with heavy rain on Saturday night added to the problems of devotees.
Hundreds of pilgrims were left in the lurch with no accommodation available. The public amenities complexes were overflowing with pilgrims, while there was a commotion at the Annadanam Complex.
The pedestrian routes from Alipiri and Srivari Mettu also witnessed heavy rush of pilgrims since Saturday night.
The Divya darshan which usually takes two hours, took more than five hours on Sunday. The devotees had a harrowing time for tonsure as it was taking them more than four hours to get their turn.
Water scarcity also gripped the cottages and it was strictly monitored and bottles were being sold at Rs 20.
