2 die in bid to overtake bus

Two motorcycle riders died on Tank Bund after one of them rammed into the other while overtaking an RTC bus at 11.50 pm on Sunday.

Police said G. Suresh, 26, a private employee from Gudimalkapur, Mehdipatnam, was run over by the bus after he fell off his bike. K. Sudhakar, 32, of Kandlakoya, Medchal, a priest with the Great Baptist Church there, died on the spot with severe head injuries. Suresh’s brother B. Upendar who was following him on another bike said that he had gone on the extreme right side to overtake the bus. “While driving, he told me he was going to overtake the bus and went to the extreme right side. Then I heard a sound, and saw my brother covered in blood under the bus when it stopped,” said Mr Upendar.

Can’t build divider on Tank Bund
Gandhi Nagar sub-inspector P. Shiva Prasad said that G. Suresh, who was run over by an RTC bus after he fell off his bike on Tank Bund, was returning home from Bonalu festivities and K. Sudhakar was going home from the Hyderabad side when their motorcycles collided. “Suresh went under an RTC bus coming behind him and was run over. Sudhakar fell to the other side and sustained severe head injuries which resulted in instant death,” he said.

While Tank Bund remains an unsafe 1.6-km stretch for commuters, GHMC officials said installation of a divider was impossible on the road. “If we install dividers on the Tank Bund road, every year they have to be removed for Vinayaka nimajjanam,” said GHMC additional commissioner, Dhanunjaya Reddy. He, however, added that GHMC was planning to install a 2-lane system with studs on the centre line so that vehiclists get more prominent markings. The bodies of the victims were handed over to their relatives after post-mortem at Gandhi Hospital. Police has booked a case under IPC section 304 A and is investigating.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
