2 new rules to discipline state colleges
Governor E.S.L. Narasmhan on Thursday promulgated two ordinances that will enable the state government to discipline errant engineering and other technical colleges. The ordinances enable the state to inspect, levy penalties, cancel recognition and withdraw university affiliation from colleges if they are found to violate norms mandated by the AICTE, the government and other regulatory bodies.
The move assumes significance in the backdr-op of the ongoing tussle between the state government and managements of engineering colleges regarding fee hikes. The government is of the opinion that majority of the engineering colleges lack the required faculty and infrastructure and are “unfit” to demand huge fee hikes.
