2-year-old crushed to death by water tanker

A two-year-old girl was crushed by a water tanker at Madhuranagar, Neredmet, on Wednesday morning.
The deceased, Sony, was the daughter of one Mr Nazeer, a resident of the locality who works as a plumber. According to inspector P. Srinivas of Neredmet police, the incident took place at around 9.30 am, when Sony was playing in front of her house and the driver of a Water Board tanker was reversing the vehicle.

With no assistant to guide him, the driver failed to spot the child on the rear view mirror and ran over her, the inspector said. Sony died on the spot. The police registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code against the driver and later arrested him. The arrested man identified as one Jahangir, a resident of Dammaiguda, Neradmet, was sent to judicial custody. The police has seized the water tanker. The victim’s body was handed over to the family after post-mortem at the Gandhi Hospital mortuary.
