ACB pleas to fix corrupt top list of files with Kiran
Nearly 80 per cent of files pending with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy are requests for sanction to prosecute corrupt officials. The corrupt officials were either caught in traps or booked for being in possession of assets disproportionate to their income. As per Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, it is mandatory for the ACB to get permission from the state government for prosecution in all cases.
The ACB approaches the Chief Minister with requests mainly to reconsider the decisions of principal secretaries of departments concerned who only recommend departmental action against corrupt officers instead of granting permission to prosecute them. Sources said the ACB requests came to light when the CM was clearing files pending with him after coming in for sharp criticism. However, he is yet to take a call on clearing the cases.
