Air Iindia makes a mark at India Aviation-2012
The national carrier Air India made a splash on the opening day of India Aviation 2012 at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad on Wednesday as it rolled out its Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft, painted in the Air India livery. The international exhibition and conference on civil aviation showcases aircraft from around the world and the long-awaited Dreamliner, Boeing’s latest aircraft, was the cynosure of all eyes.
Air India placed an order for 27 Boeing 787’s in 2006 as part of the 68 aircraft ordered from the American aviation company. The Dreamliner is made of composite material, making it lighter and 20 per cent more fuel-efficient than other aircraft, thus reducing fuel costs. The interiors of the 250-seater aircraft are also more luxurious.
Rohit Nandan, CMD of Air India, was present on Wednesday for the inauguration of India Aviation 2012. The national carrier showcased its past, present and future to an international audience of eminent aviation industry professionals and media. It featured prominently in the exhibition mounted as part of the event, showcasing its pivotal role in the history of Indian civil aviation since its first international flight 64 years ago. The airline, which is treading a difficult path in recent times, is hoping the induction of the futuristic B-787 aircraft will help expand and modernise its fleet.
