A.K. Khan assumes charge as RTC chief
Cutting the losses and reducing the number of accidents are the two primary objectives of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, the the corporation’s new vice-chairman and managing director A.K. Khan has said. Mr Khan said on Monday that the APSRTC had recorded a Rs 450 crore loss last year. “There is no financial help for the organisation and the challenge before us is to achieve a balance between functioning as a financially sound institution,” he said. Mr Khan stressed: “Safety comes first in the transport sector, and accidents can be bought down further with better maintenance of vehicle and by imparting better training to drivers.”
Prasada Rao takes over as ACB chief
Director-general of police B. Prasada Rao on Monday took charge as ACB chief in the absence of additional DG D. Boobathi Babu. Mr Boobathi Babu went on casual leave, handing over charge in writing. Senior ACB officials called on Mr Prasada Rao soon after he took charge. Speaking to reporters, Mr Prasada Rao said that the SIT would continue the probe into the liquor scam as per the directions of the AP High Court. He added that status reports would be filed in the High court according to the dates. Asked about Mr Boobathi Babu proceeding on leave, he said he was not aware of the reasons why he had gone on leave. Mr Prasada Rao said necessary measures would be taken to ensure that the department interacted more closely with the public and assured that the force would be utilised effectively.
