Antibiotics in animals affect humans
Most antibiotics administered to farm animals are highly contraindicative, especially hormonal injections given to cows.
These can affect human male fertility as it affects testosterone levels in men. Some antibiotics used in farm animals also affect the liver and kidney of huma-ns who consume the animal products, say experts.
In-charge principal of Government Ayurveda Co-llege Dr N. Satya Prasad, said, “Often farm animals, especially cows, are administered hormonal injections to increase their yield. But these have rather harmful effects on human beings when they consume the milk. The testosterone secretion is affected in men, thus decreasing their fertility. Ayurvedic herbs should be grown and used as cattle feed to stimulate milk production.”
Veterinary surgeon Dr Muralidhar said that certain banned injections like oxytocin are given to cattle especially by small farmers to drain the udder and get the extra milk. This causes hormonal imbalance in cows. When fresh milk (without boiling) is consumed by human beings, it affects them too.
Often, antibiotics course given to farm animals isn’t completed. As a result, animals develop resistance to the particular medicine.
