AP gives Dada high amid 5-vote puzzle
While President-elect Pranab Mukherjee got the highest majority from Andhra Pradesh as had been expected, five invalid votes among the 190 MLAs surprised both the Congress and the BJP.
AP Congress chief Botsa Satyanarayana had submitted a report to the party leadership that Mr Muk-herjee would get 187 votes against the 190 polled here. But during counting, it was found that Mr Mukherjee had actually got 182 votes.
Mr Satyanarayana had also reported that NDA candidate P.A. Sangma would get three votes from the state — two BJP and an Independent. However, apart from the two BJP legislators (the third BJP MLA could not cast his vote), Nagam Janardhan Reddy (independent) and K. Hariswara Reddy and Dr S. Venugopala Chary (TD rebels) claimed they had voted for Mr Sangma.
