AP is most talkative on cellphone: Study
People of the state spend the most time talking on their mobile phones among the southern states.
In the first three months of the year, each subscriber in the state (GSM and CDMA) spent 305 minutes a month on an average talking on mobile phones. This is much higher than the other three southern states. According to data recently released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), subscribers in Karnataka spent a monthly average of 284 minutes on their mobiles while those in Kerala and Tamil Nadu spent 255 and 246 minutes respectively.
The AP average was also higher than the country’s average which was 287 minutes per subscriber per month. Explaining the state’s talkativeness, astropsychologist at Image Hospitals S.V. Nagnath says, “Our people pay more heed to emotions and give more priorities to relations than those in the other southern states. So they naturally talk more. “Our people are not very money-minded so they are not very conscious about tariff.” Mobile service operators also seem to be stressing more on human relations in commercials. He adds, “A friend working with a leading mobile operator recently told me that they observed that people here (AP) talked more.”
Not only South India, subscribers from Andhra Pradesh also beat other states like Maharashtra and Gujarat. Residents of Maharashtra spent 283 minutes on their phone while Gujarat subscribers spent 255 minutes.
