AP student’s family claims harassment
Following the arrest of Hyderanad student, Mohammed Ubaidur Rehman, by the Bengaluru police on Thursday for having alleged links with terrorist outfits Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) and the Indian Mujahideen (IM), Rehman’s grandmother Tahera Khatoon said, “They came in vehicles
and whisked him away. We have been waiting for him but no information was given to us.
"Locals told us that they had seen new faces in the area for the past two days. Most probably they were police. The police are harassing our family. Earlier they had jailed Rehman’s uncle for six years. For the past ten years we have been facing this. What wrong has my grandson committed?”
Rehman’s mother Ms Kausar Sultana added, “My son is innocent. He is an asthma patient and needs medical support.”
Rehman’s family members also claimed that another of their relatives, Abdul Majeed, had also been arrested by the police earlier in connection with the Haren Pandya case in Gujarat and had been released from jail recently.
Meanwhile, the management of the Anwar-ul-Uloom College said that they were verifying whether Rehman was was a student of that college.
