Arrested man’s wife kills herself

Tension gripped Naskal village of Ranga Reddy District with villagers staging a protest after a 25-year-old woman and her two children were found dead in a well under suspicious circumstances on Sunday. The woman’s husband was arrested for theft two weeks ago and was allegedly tortured in custody. K. Raju and two other persons were arrested two weeks ago and stolen goods worth Rs 30,000 were recovered from them. The villagers believe that the family committed suicide due to the high handedness of the Pargi Inspector. The villagers discovered the bodies of K. Lakshmi and her children Bhargavi, 5, and Pallavi, 2, in the well in the morning when they came to collect water. The angry villagers blamed Pargi Inspector Shiv Shanker Naik for the suicide and blocked the main road of the village for over two hours. They alleged that Raju was tortured in custody and his wife was humiliated by the Inspector when she went to the police station.

Taking a serious note of the issue, Hyderabad range DIG Y. Nagi Reddy ordered an inquiry into the matter. He ordered Inspector Shiv Shanker Naik to report to headquarters for an inquiry into the case. However, Inspector Shiv Shanker Naik denied all allegations. “The allegations are the handiwork of some people with a political motive. I have never met Raju’s wife. How can I then torture or behave rudely with her,” he asked.

“We were informed by the villagers that three bodies were discovered. We rushed to the spot and identified the bodies as the family members of Raju," Pargi Sub Inspector of Police M. Lakshman Reddy said. Superintendent of Police and Chevella Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shilpavani visited the place. SP Raja Kumari clarified that no case has been registered against the Pargi Inspector so far. “We will conduct an inquiry first and see if the allegations are true,” she said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
