Attack planned to fan violence: Probe
Investigations by the city police into the violence in Madannapet and Saidabad found that it was premeditated, and was aimed at fanning religious hatred. The police who investigated the desecration of a place of worship in Kurmaguda of Madannapet in the city found that it was a pre-planned act.
“We have clues and our teams are working on them. So far around 70 suspects who are known anti-social elements have been picked up and are being grilled. Apart from this we have also identified five suspects in specific cases of violence,” police commissioner A.K. Khan said. Mr Khan said that there were no deaths in the violence and around five have been injured including three in stabbings. Madannapet police said that they have booked five cases. One is regarding the desecration of a religious place and for hurting religious sentiments and four regarding the violence.
Santoshnagar assistant commissioner of police S. Sai Krishna said, “Two case of stone pelting and two cases of stabbings have been registered.” The incident at Madannapet led to a spill into Saidabad triggering violence. Saidabad police has booked five cases. The city police is on alert after the violence and communal rowdysheeters across the city have been picked up to prevent the violence from spreading. In West Zone alone around 300 rowdysheeters have been picked up.
West Zone DCP Stephen Ravindra has appealed to the public to remain calm. “Don’t give credence to rumours. Anyone who sends provocative SMSes will be punished. Those who post offensive messages on social networking sites like Facebook will also be brought to book.”
