Ayub defaults on Rs10.12L phone bill
Former Test cricketer and president of Hyderabad Cricket Association Arshad Ayub has been served notice by the BSNL for defaulting on telephone bills amounting to Rs10.12 lakh.
According to BSNL officials, the amount has been pending for several years and despite a court order it has not been paid.
Telecom revenue inspectors of BSNL issued a notice to Mr Ayub and also provided the list of call details to him.
A BSNL official said, “Several ISD calls were made from this number. We have served several notices to him on the address given. Despite repeated reminders, the bill for 1994 was not paid. Even in November 2004 we had got a city civil court decree in our favour. The phone connection is regarding the number 040-3317799 and the address is on Road No.13 of Banjara Hills. We have provided the call data list too.” When contacted, Mr Ayub acknowledged receiving the notice.
“BSNL officials served a notice two days ago regarding a bill pertaining to 20 years back stating that the phone is in my name. Though it is in my name it was at my brother’s address. I haven’t made any calls. I asked them to give evidence. I will look into it and try to sort it out.”
Ironically, after 20 years they come and ask me to pay. Their claim is that the phone was taken in 1994.”
