Bankrupt GHMC leans on corporates
With the Central Government's refusal to offer help with special grants, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has turned to the corporate world for support to spruce up the city for the international biodiversity conference to be held here in October.
Nearly a dozen companies have already responded, and the GHMC is expecting more to come forward in terms of assistance by June-end. Larsen & Toubro, Nagarjuna Constru-ctions, Radisson Blu Hotels, AP Real Estate Developers Association, Pennar Group, SBI, SBH, Karur Vysya Bank, Andhra Bank, and Canara Bank are some of the leading corporate groups who have offered to take up the development and beautification projects of the city. Most corporate companies have their in-house landscape architects. A special theme and design that gels with the International Biodiversity Conference will be given to these companies, which will take up the beautification projects by planting trees and flowering plants as per the special theme and design.
The plan is to take up beautification projects on 20 different stretches of roads stretching for 123km, mainly those in the vicinity of five star hotels, where the delegates will be staying. Crucially, importance will be given to the venues where conference programmes will be held.
