Bhanu confesses to his liquor mafia links

Gangster Bhanu Kiran has confessed to the CID about his involvement in various activities, including setting up a cable-network in Sudan, an Internet telephony scam and mediating between the liquor syndicate and Excise department officials.

He also revealed that it was Mangali Krishna alias D. Krishna, a noted rowdysheeter from Pulivendula in Kadapa district, who procured five weapons illegally for Maddalacheruvu Suri in 2008-09. (Telugu Desam had alleged that Mangali Krishna was a henchman of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy).

Bhanu was carrying a revolver and other ammunition. The CID, in its custody petition filed before the Nampally court on Monday, said that more illegal weapons and ammunition were found in Bhanu’s room in Seoni in Madhya Pradesh. A man, named Anil, of Jammalamadugu in Kadapa, also helped Bhanu procure weapons for Suri to eliminate his opponents. Sources said after getting police custody of Bhanu, the CID team will leave for Seoni to recover the weapon.

Two others, Mangali Krishna and Anil, are likely to be added as accused under the Arms Act.
Bhanu, in his confession, said, “During the initial days, I was helping Y. Satyanarayana alias Satti, and Narasimha Reddy, who were running liquor shops, mediate with the Excise officials by paying bribes. It was Narasimha Reddy who sent me to Cherlapally jail to meet Suri from where I developed a rapport with him.

“Later, I came in contact with one Khader of Pulivendula who was carrying out an illegal business of Voice Over Internet Protocol-Internet telephony of ISD phone calls in 2003. One Loknath was also doing this. I developed friendship with him,” said Bhanu. The gangster was involved in several crimes, and subsequently, he was involved settlements and extortions along with Suri. Bhanu told the CID that he killed Suri as he had threatened to eliminate him.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
