Bhanu described as “just a middleman” by police
The police on Sunday said M. Bhanu Kiran was more of a middleman than a gangster. “He is more a middleman than a dreaded gangster. Bhanu was enjoying good rapport with political leaders and officials and getting work done on behalf of Suri. He used to visit the Secretariat regularly,” revealed a police official. Film producer C. Kalyan told the police earlier that he and Bhanu were to go to the Secretariat to meet revenue officials the day before Suri was killed.
Sources said Bhanu was tracked down via the mobile phone he was using. He was produced before the magistrate late on Saturday night and shifted to Cherlapally jail where he has been kept in an isolated block as there was a perceived threat to his life. Jail Superintendent K.L. Srinivasa Rao said no actual report of a threat was received, “But with information from other sources, we have made arrangements to ensure the safety of the remand prisoner Bhanu”. Ironically, this is the same prison in which Bhanu’s victim, Suri, was lodged for several years. The CID has informed Bhanu's brother in Bengaluru and his mother at Anantapur about his arrest.
