Bonalu concludes peacefully
The last phase of Bonalu festival concluded on Monday with a procession on a decorated elephant passing through the main streets of old city.
Thousands of devotees from different parts of the city and nearby districts thronged the Mahankali temples in old city for darshan of the goddess.
Seventeen different processions from various Mahankali temples joined the main procession, which started from the Akkanna Madanna temple at Shalibanda. MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy, police commissioner Anurag Sh-arma and South Zone DCP Akun Sabharwal were am-ong those present at Akka-nna Madanna temple wh-en the procession started.
Rangam (future forecasting) was observed on the last day of Bonalu. During Rangam, a devout woman in deep trance (Poonakam or Shivalu) stands on an unbaked earthen pot and predicts the future.
All 17 temples brought their ghatams in a joint procession, which culminated at the Mahankali temple at Nayapul. The procession was halted du-ring the time of namaaz and proceeded after it.
