Bridge opening delayed as CM is busy
Thousands of motorists have to travel longer distances every day and spend more money on expensive petrol because the new bridge, which is completed, is waiting for some VIP to inaugurate it. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority completed the bridge a month ago, but since there is a silly tradition of some important politician officially declaring it open, HMDA is waiting for Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy or at least municipal administration minister Maheedhar Reddy, to inaugurate it. Motorists shuttling between Hyderguda and Langer Houz are demanding that the HMDA informally throw open the bridge.
“A large number of families will save money as the bridge reduces the distance between Hyderguda and Langer Houz by almost three kilometres,” said R. Sunil Raj, a resident of Hyderguda. The bridge will also provide faster connectivity to people going to the international airport and Hitec City through this route. Construction of the bridge started in 2010 and was completed at a cost of Rs 7 crore in the first week of May this year. The bridge runs over the Musi river and its total length is 308 metres, with a carriageway way of 7.5 metres. When contacted, HMDA chief engineer Mr V. Madhwa Raja said: “All we can say is that the construction of the bridge is complete and the state government has been informed about this.”
