Calm before the storm
An uneasy calm prevails in the state Congress with leaders continuing to criticise the leadership, including the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. Former minister and Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy’s bete noir in Chittoor politics, Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy on Monday demanded the Congress high command to immediately replace the CM or else he will resign from both the Congress and the Assembly, along with others.
Mr Peddireddi was speaking after a meeting with Deputy CM Damodar Raja Narasimha. “I have already told the high command to change the CM. I am waiting for this to happen. If he is not changed, I and some others will leave the party,” he said. Mr Peddireddi continued, “First of all, he should not have been made CM. Having made a mistake, it is now for the high command to rectify it.” Meanwhile, health minister D.L. Ravindra Reddy told media persons that he is awaiting a reply to his resignation letter he had sent to Congress president. Dr Ravindra Reddy also said that there are no chances of Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy being replaced till the 2014 elections.
“It is the misfortune (Karma) of the Congress and the people of state to have him as the Chief Minister till 2014,” he said. Following the two leaders' outburst, PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana rushed to meet them and urged them not to air their views in public as this would send wrong signals to the leaders and demoralise the cadre. Later, Mr Satyanarayana said that he will talk to all concerned in the party in order to find a way out for the Telangana statehood issue and enlighten the high command over his efforts. The PCC chief added that he was unaware about the comments made by minister C. Ramachandraiah. He also admitted that there has been a delay in filling the various government nominated posts with party leaders.
“I sincerely feel there should not be any delay in making an announcement on the Telangana demand,” he said, adding, “At the same time I cannot put any deadline. It is for the Centre to take a decision at an appropriate time.”
