CBI prepares chargesheet in Vanpic case, surprises likely
The CBI will file a chargesheet on Monday against around 10 persons including Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, former minister Mopidevi Venkataramana, industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad and others including IAS officials in the Vanpic case. Sources said that CBI teams were giving final touches to the chargesheet to be filed regarding the Vanpic conspiracy in Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s illegal investments case. The chargesheet is likely to be filed on Monday before the mandatory period of 90 days end.
Mr Nimmagadda Prasad and Mr Brahmananda Reddy were arrested on May 15 and the mandatory period to file a chargesheet ends on August 12. Sources, meanwhile, indicated that there would be several surprise additions in the chargesheet and some bureaucrats, politicians and industrialists would feature as accused beside Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mr Mopidevi Venkatramana, Mr Nimmagadda Prasad, IRTS official Brahmananda Reddy and auditor Vijay Sai Reddy.
The Bureau has alleged that Mr Prasad had invested Rs 504 crore in companies belonging to Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy as a quid pro quo arrangement for favours received. Mr K.V. Brahmananda Reddy, an IRAS (Indian Railway Account Service) official currently in South Eastern Railways has been accused of official misconduct and facilitating the fraud. Mr Venkataramana, meanwhile, has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and for conspiracy and cheating.
