Chaos in OU as students, police clash
Utter chaos prevailed at Osmania University on Sunday with pro-Telangana students clashing with police when they were prevented from taking out a rally to the Necklace Road to join the T-march. As the battle intensified, police used stun grenades in addition to tear gas she-lls to disperse the agitators.
Scores of students gathered at the NCC Gate and forcibly broke the police barricades. The students also pelted stones at the security forces deployed at different gates of the campus. Apart from local police and Task Force sleuths, par-amilitary force also swung into action to control the surging, violent protesters. The student leaders claimed that three students, B. Narsh, Rajashekhar and Damodar from the D hostel were injured in the firing.
The violence began when police stopped the bike rally of Osmania Students Joint Action Committee at the NCC Gate in the morning. The cops informed students that they could not go to the venue as prohibition orders were issued in the city, and asked them to go individually. Meanwhile, other students from different political groups also gathered at the spot and started a heated argument with the police. As police tried to disperse them, the students pushed aside the barricades. To control the situation, police forcibly pushed them back to the campus. The police-student clash continued till late in the evening, with brief breaks in between. As the violence reached its peak, paramilitary forces moved into the campus.
