Chiru set to get post in Union Cabinet
Congress MP Chiranjeevi is all set to join the Union Council of ministers as minister of state (independent charge) in the upcoming Central Cabinet reshuffle. Sources close to the actor-turned-politician said that he received a signal on Thursday to be ready for the swearing-in ceremony next week. Though there has been no official word about the reshuffle, reports from Delhi indicate that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has already discussed the matter with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the reshuffle might take place either on September 17 or 18.
Mr Chiranjeevi, who had floated the Praja Rajyam in 2008 had announced its merger with the Congress in February 2011. He had been assured a Cabinet berth at that time and Ms Gandhi apparently reiterated the same during their meeting recently. PCC sources say that apart from Mr Chiranjeevi, there are no chances of anyone else from the state making it to the Union Cabinet.
