City hospital sued after woman’s death
A young woman died at a hospital in Moulali here on Friday evening after complications arose following medical termination of her pregnancy. Tests had earlier confirmed that the victim’s one-and-half-month-old foetus was dead and had to be removed surgically, the police said. The deceased, N. Kamala, 22, was wife of one N. Ayappa, a resident of Machilipatnam. On Saturday, her parents registered a complaint against the hospital, Life Spring Maternity Hospital, and the surgeon, Dr Jansi. They alleged that the doctors delayed medical support as Kamala’s conditioned worsened post-surgery.
According to Malkajgiri sub-inspector Janki Ram Reddy, Ms Kamala was admitted on Friday and the surgery took place around 6 pm. While the surgery reportedly went off smoothly and Ms Kamala was set for discharge within hours, she complained of severe stomach pain soon after. In her complaint to police, the victim’s mother, Ms N. Sarayvati, said while they informed the doctors immediately, the doctors were late in giving her oxygen and other medical support, which might have led to her death. Malkajgiri police has registered a case of negligence and are investigating. Life Spring Maternity Hospital authorities did not comment despite repeated attempts to contact them.
