City set for Bonalu today
Arrangements are being made for the smooth conduct of the Bonalu festival at Ujjaini Mahankali temple and other temples in Secunderabad on Sunday. All the city temples have been decked up, and the festivities will start early in the morning Over 1,500 police personnel have been deployed to streamline the progress of the annual Ashada Jatara. A separate queue for women carrying bonams has been arranged.
Following a feedback from last year, an attendant or the person accompanying the woman carrying a bonam will be allowed in this exclusive queue. There will also be an adequate number of queues for devotees, including men, women and VVIPs. The police has sought the co-operation of various temple committees and its volunteers to ensure that the festival is conducted peacefully.
As many as 290 processions are expected to be taken out from various temples of the mother goddess in the North Zone. A large number of CCTV cameras have been installed at major locations. Rangam will be held at Ujjaini Mahankali temple on July 9, followed by a procession on a capari-soned elephant. Bonalu will be celebrated in the old city on July 15, and the combined procession on a caparisoned elephant will be held on July 16.
