City set to get a ‘green makeover’
To give the city a befitting image during the COP-11, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will take up eco-friendly measures.
The civic body is laying cycle tracks in and around Hitec City to promote the concept of Green Hyderabad. It is also beautifying the landscapes in central medians and traffic islands. Developing major parks as well new theme parks are a few of the other green initiatives that are planned.
Major roads are going to get a complete make-over with murals to adorn pillars. The road surface on important stretches is being improved by milling the existing surface for profile and camber correction and resurfacing for a smooth ride.
The improvement of footpaths and stormwater drains in the identified corridors, the modernisation of traffic signals, illuminations near tourist and historic places as well as the repair and restoration of clock towers and fountains are on the anvil.
Consultants have been appointed to develop the designs for road signage and street furniture. Traffic signage for different categories like mandatory, regulatory, caution, warning and information signs will be put up along the corridors to facilitate easy travelling for visitors to the city.
Information sign boards have been proposed at all major road junctions, bus and railway stations, and airports. Hyderabad is all set to welcome the world.
