CM, Botsa for Delhi to finalise list soon
AICC general secretary and Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday discussed at length the bypoll strategy during the state Congress coordination committee meeting and asked the leaders to ensure victory in majority seats. Mr Azad, who arrived here in the afternoon, held the third meeting of the coordination committee at the Chief Minister's Camp Office for over two hours.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha, PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana, Rajya Sabha member K. Chiranjeevi, former PCC chief D. Srinivas, former minister Shabbir Ali and senior leader Kavuri Sambasiva Rao participated in the meeting.
Following the coordination committee meeting, the Chief Minister and Mr Satyanarayana are likely to leave for Delhi on Monday morning to hold detailed discussions on the finalisation of the Congress candidates with AICC leaders before meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The list of candidates is likely to be released in a day or two. Mr Azad reportedly told the coordination panel that byelections would be crucial for the Congress and unless all the leaders stood united, it would be difficult for the Congress to face challenges from YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the main opposition Telugu Desam. He said Congress candidates should be selected based on consensus among leaders and not based on personal interests.
