CM launches Metro works

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said on Sunday that the Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be dedicated to the nation on December 2014.

He said the trials of the first phase of the metro rail project will begin in June 2014. He laid foundation for the Metro Rail project on Sunday at Uppal, marking the official launch of the Metro Rail works.
Mr Reddy also laid the foundation for radial road No. 22 on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said the metro rail project has faced several problems but his government was successful in overcoming them.

He said he had a strong desire of making Hyderabad a world-class, international city. He said with the support of the public, the government could successfully complete the land acquisition required for the project and assured those displaced from their houses that they would be given attractive compensation.

“I feel fortunate about being part of the launch of Metro Rail works. It’s the biggest project, with an investment of over Rs 17,000 crore. Once completed, the project will ease traffic problems in the city. The 71-km metro rail project can carry 15 lakh people every day,” the Chief Minister said.

Explaining the significance being given to the metro rail project in the city, Mr Reddy said, “We have fixed tight deadlines to ensure the speedy completion of the project.”

“Even if there is a delay of one day on the part of the government, we will have to pay a penalty of `32 lakh and if the L&T delays commissioning of the project by one day, they will have to pay `64 lakh,” Mr Reddy said.

Describing himself as a ‘Hyderabadi’, the he said, “I was born, brought up and educated in Hyderabad.

My party high command has given me a chance to serve as CM. My aim is to develop Hyder-abad as a world-class city during my tenure.”
