CM plays it safe on state Formation Day
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has continued to play it safe on AP Formation Day, leaving it to district collectors to unfurl the tricolour and receive the honours on November 1 for the second consecutive year.
The state government issued instructions in this regard to the collectors a few days ago.
The move gained significance in the backdrop of Telangana protagonists’ call to observe the AP Formation Day as “state betrayal day”.
They also warned the ministers from the 10 Telangana districts of severe reaction from people of the region if they hoisted the National Flag on AP Formation Day.
Telangana Rashtra Sam-iti chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao appealed to the people of Telangana to hoist black flags on every household to register their protest against the delay by the Centre in granting separate statehood to the region.
“We have only followed the practice that was put in place last year,” a senior state official said.
Incidentally in 2011, the state Cabinet had, three days before the state Formation Day, arrived at a conclusion to ask the collectors to be the chief guests at the official celebrations after discussions.
Though some ministers from the coastal regions raised objections, the Chief Minister convinced them that it would not be right to leave the Cabinet colleagues from the Telangana region in an embarrassing situation.
The Chief Minister will, however, receive the honours at state function to be organised at NTR Stadium in the city on Thursday.
