CM vows better facilities
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said on Wednesday that the state government was trying to secure an additional 1,000 MBBS seats for the next academic year (2012-13) for both government and private medical colleges. At present, there are 5,500 seats in 40 medical colleges across the state. Mr Reddy inaugurated a private institution, Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, at Suraram Crossroads in Qutbullapur here on Wednesday. The Medical Council of India has approved 150 MBBS seats for the college from this year.
“The state government has stepped up efforts to upgrade infrastructure and faculty in government medical colleges across the state to secure additional MBBS seats next year. Proposals will be submitted to the MCI to this effect soon. Besides, new private medical colleges will also be permitted next year. Our plan is to add 1,000 MBBS seats next year,” he said. Stating that nearly 700 MBBS seats had been added in the state since the time he took over as CM in November 2010, Mr Reddy said that sufficient funds would be provided to government medical colleges across the state on a priority-basis to ensure that there weren’t any shortcomings in infrastructure and faculty during MCI inspections to secure additional seats. He also said that his government was committed to develop government schools at par with corporate schools. “A large number of teachers are being recruited in government schools besides creating all facilities,” he added.
