Congress tones down YSR jayanti
The Congress on Sunday celebrated the 63rd birth anniversary of the late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy in a low key manner, even as the YSR Congress celebrated the event with plenty of fanfare across the state. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC chief Botsa Satya-narayana, Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani, Assembly Speaker Nadendla Man-ohar and a few party MPs and MLAs gathered at the Assembly and offered floral tributes to YSR, besides garlanding his statue at Panjagutta crossroads.
YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi and other members of his family gathered at Idupulaya memorial to pay their tributes. YSR’s birth anniversary was also remembered across the state, with his family members, the YSRC cadre, fans and well-wishers conducting blood donation camps, undertaking charitable activities and recalling his services for the uplift of various sections of people. Ms Vijayalakshmi donated blood at Idupulaya near the YSR Ghat where a free ambulance was commissioned.
A blood donation camp was held by the youth wing of the party. Meanwhile, YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy spent the day in prayers in the Chanchlaguda jail. Sources said that a request by YSR fans to distribute fruits in the jail was turned down as it was thought to be a ‘sensitive’ issue.
