Conspiracy to hurt image: MLA

Telugu Desam MLA from Kovvur T.V. Rama Rao, against whom a case of molestation may be dropped, had been alleging that there was a political conspiracy to tarnish his image. In July 2009, Mr Rama Rao was arrested by CID sleuths after a girl alleged that he had attempted to rape her and had made advances on four others. The police had booked a case against him under IPC sections 354 (molestation), 509 (using words or gestures intended to outrage the modesty of women), 503 criminal intimidation, 341 (wrongful restrain), 347 (wrongful restrain for extortion and 384 (extortion).

The state had also suspended the permission for operation of his nursing school Spruha Educational Society, after health offici-als had found that the institute was violating rules. Initially, the Kovvur police had probed into the allegations and stated that there was no evidence and closed the case. Later, the CID took up the case.
