Contractors on flash strike, CoP works stop
Contractors working for the GHMC went on a flash strike on Friday evening and brought to a halt Rs 370-crore civic works, including the Rs 170-crore city beautification works for the global biodiversity meet CoP-11.
Greater Hyderabad Contractors Associa-tion president Munaw-war Hussain and vice-president M. Surender Singh alleged that one of their contractors, N. Naresh, was manhandled by GHMC executive engineer R. Mohan Singh (division-10) when the former had gone to ask for bill payment for work already completed.
The contractors locked up Mr Singh in a room in GHMC circle office at Khairatabad.
“We won’t resume any CoP-11 related work until the executive engineer is suspended,” said Mr Hussain and Mr Singh, adding Mr Naresh had been sent to hospital for treatment.
Municipal commissi-oner M.T. Krishna Babu ordered an enquiry into the incident. Mayor Majid Hussain assured the contractors that action will be ta-ken and appealed them to resume the work.
