Cops go after Shankar, kin for forgery in Greenfields
Former MLA and minister P. Shankar Rao went into 'hiding' on Saturday when the Neredmet police visited him.
The politician and his brother, P. Dayanand, are being probed in an alleged forgery case and the High Court had recently lifted the stay on the investigation.
Neredmet Inspector of police P. Srinivas said, “He was not present when we visited his house this morning. Even his brother, who is also an accused, was not available. We wanted to talk to him regarding the case as the HC has vacated the stay on investigation.”
A case of forgery and falsification of accounts was registered against the former MLA and minister P. Shankar Rao on November 9, 2011, based on a complaint lodged by Greenfields Plot Owners’ Association president-cum-general secretary S. Chandrasekhar.
The inspector added that as part of the investigation, the documents in question, a court order which is allegedly forged by the brothers, would be sent to the AP Forensic Science Laboratory for verification.
Shankar Rao hasn’t fled, says his kin
Former minister P. Shankar Rao’s daughter Susmitha, denied that her father had gone into hiding.
“The land in Kanajiguda of RR district is spread over 75 acres and there are around 875 owners. In 1973, after the Land Abolishment Act, instead of surrendering the land to the government, Inam Syed Akbar Nizamuddin gave GP to one N.R. Pandu, a relative of Pitla Krishna. They converted the area into plots and sold it to us.
“But in 1995, Mr Shankar Rao served a legal notice to us stating that he had got occupancy rights. We contested it and the Ranga Reddy Joint Collector in 2002 stated that it was government land.
Following this, the case went to the HC and in 2005 a judgement came stating that it was government land. In 2006, the SC too, stated that it was not maintainable. However, in November 2008, Mr Shankar Rao filed a letter with the Malkajgiri MRO stating that an SLP was pending on this though it was dismissed in 2006. When we gave the facts, the Collector issued orders regularising the plots to us.
However, Mr Shankar Rao filed a letter with the Collector stating that one of the SC SLPs SC was in his favour. However, it is a forged judgement of a Haryana court. Based on this we filed a complaint with the police. When they refused to book a case we went to court and it directed the case.”
However, the police did not probe the case till January 2012 as there was a High Court stay.
