Court cancels Pahelwan’s bail
The AP High Court on Wednesday cancelled the bail of Mohammed Bin Omer Yafai, alias Mohammed Pahelwan, and two others who are accused of being involved in the assault on MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi. While cancelling bail granted to Mohammed Pahelwan and his brother Younus Bin Omer Yafai and Bahadur Ali Khan, alias Munawar Iqbal, Justice K.C. Bhanu directed them to surrender before the trial court.
The judge heard their bail applications afresh following a directive of the Supreme Court. In September 2011, a single judge of the HC had granted bail to the accused and the state government had appealed before the SC. The SC had set aside the bail orders on March 16, 2012, and had asked the Hc to decide on bail applications afresh within a period of six weeks. Vinod Kumar Deshpande, the public prosecutor opposing the bail applications, contended that it was a case of attack on a public representative. Counsel for the accused contended that Mohammed Pahelwan never participated in the alleged offence and he was framed by the police. He also said that the accused were on bail for the past six months and they never tried to interfere with the investigation of the case.
