Crime-based TV shows ‘inpire’ students to kill
Hayathnagar police arrested two BTech students on Saturday in connection with the murder of Shivaram Krishna, 22, whose body was found near Kuntloor Pedda Cheruvu on May 16. The police said the accused were inspired by crime-based TV programmes and crime news to kill. According to the police, the accused, Venugopal Choudhary, 23, from Vaira, Khammam, and Hanmand Reddy, 22, from Nizamabad, both first year BTech students at the Nagole Institute of Technology, murdered Shivaram out of personal vendetta. The police said the victim Shivaram, was an intermediate dropout, doing petty jobs in the city.
“The victim and the first accused Venugopal were room-mates in a private hostel at Dilsukhnagar. The victim used to regularly borrow money from Venugopal, which soured their relationship,” said Hayatnagar inspector G. Sreenivas Kumar. “On May 16, Venugopal and his classmate Hanmand Reddy took Shivaram for a walk to the Kuntloor Pedda Cheruvu and killed him,” he added. The victim’s body was found with stab wounds and a slit throat. The police said, “Venugopal confessed that he was fond of crime related TV programmes and news. The shows inspired him to kill,” the police inspector said.
