Cyber crime: Students, techies cry foul
Most of the people who complain to the cyber crime police about offensive content posted on Facebook are usually college students and software engineers, who repeatedly approach the police for action against the offenders.
An engineering student in the city, under the condition of anonymity, said she had approached the cyber crime police when a fake profile of hers was created on Facebook. “Personal insults about me and my family were posted on it. Though I repeatedly approached the cyber crime police, they could only get the content removed. The person behind this has not been arrested yet,” she said.
Complaints about alternate or fake profiles of persons or an organisation being created as well as hate posts against a person, community and caste, form bulk of the complaints with the cyber cops. Cases of cheating in love and job frauds also find a mention. Meanwhile, when contacted, Facebook officials refused to respond.
