Dad forcing us into prostitution, say girls

Two teenaged girls have complained to the police that their father was forcing them into prostitution and asked to be saved from the alleged harassment so that they could continue their studies. Suparna, 16, and Aparna, 13 (names changed), of Kotagally in Nizamabad town had lodged a complaint against their father Satyanarayana two days back at the women’s police station. When the police did not take any action, the sisters approached new District Collector Dr Christina Z. Chongthu on Tuesday and asked for help.

According to sources, the girls’ mother, Anuradha, had died three years back and Mr Satyanarayana, who is a goldsmith, had married one Ms Hemavathi recently. The couple reportedly stopped the girls’ education and forced them into domestic work and also prostitution. Unable to tolerate the harassment, the girls informed their maternal uncle in Karimnagar who reached Nizamabad and lodged a complaint with the women’s police station and also at the Two Town police station but nothing came out of it.

The girls ultimately approached the Collector and sought action against their father. “Unknown persons are coming to our house and forcing us to have sex with them,” they complained. They also expressed interest to continue their studies. Hearing the girls’ plight, the Collector immediately directed officials to inquire into the incident. Speaking to this newspaper, Nizamabad DSP J. Ramamohana Rao said that they were verifying the prostitution charges.

“We have started inquiry in this regard and are trying to establish the facts,” he said. The DSP added that Mr Satyanarayana’s third daughter had supported him and their neighbours too did not have anything negative to say about him. He hoped that the facts would come out within a couple of days.
