DGP promises more sops for cops
The director-general of police, Mr V. Dinesh Reddy, initiated several welfare measures for police officials and reorganisation of police department in the state. Police officials will get concessions on car purchases once in their lifetime. “We are constructing a model police station and after getting approval from the Chief Minister we will replicate them throughout the state. The basic concept is the operational part of police station will be separate from the public reception. The reception will be ultra modern and people-friendly,” Mr Dinesh Reddy said on Monday.
He added that Army type canteens will be set up in various parts of the state including Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Rajahmundry, Anantapur and Cyberabad. “For four-wheelers and electronic goods, police officials will get a concession once in a lifetime through the canteen system. The Chief Minister has granted Rs 1crore towards the welfare fund,” the DGP said. The police stations and sub-divisions will be reorganised. “The junior police staff will get promotions based on merit. We will also be working on reorganising the police transport. A committee has been formed for this purpose,” the DGP informed. The proposal for a greater police commission is yet to be decided due to various reasons he said. The DGP selected by UPSC based on the length of service, very good record, range of experience and appointed by the state government based on a Supreme Court ruling, will have a tenure of two years.
