DGP: State to send list of probables
The state government will send a list of all IPS officers eligible for promotion as Director-General of Police to the Union Public Service Commission on Wednesday. The government took a decision in this regard after the Supreme Court refused to stay the High Court ruling, setting aside the appoi-ntment of V. Dinesh Reddy as the DGP.
The SC, however, made it clear that Mr Reddy's name can also be sent to the UPSC. The UPSC will send a panel of three officers to the state government, from which one would be chosen as the new DGP. Sources said that the list would include P. Gautam Kumar, whose request for voluntary retirement was already approved by the state government, and Umesh Kumar, who is currently under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty, besides Mr Reddy.
Chief secretary Minnie Mathew reviewed the legal developments in the SC and sending of names to the UPSC with the GAD officials. The CMO is also closely monitoring the preparatory exercise, sources said. The government did not want to take chances by excluding any officer falling in the zone of consideration for DGP’s post from the list to be sent to UPSC. “Mr Reddy will have an edge over others but we don't want the issue to turn into a legal tangle,” a senior official said adding that the UPSC would be clearly informed about the status of each officer.
