Didn’t send note on T to Prez: PC
While political parties in the state are looking forward to a “conclusive decision” from the central Congress leadership and the Manmohan Singh government on the Telangana issue, outgoing Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday reiterated that political parties in Andhra Pradesh should first spell out their stand on the issue of separate statehood before the Centre announces its decision.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi on the Home ministry’s activities this month, Mr Chidambaram said political leaders in the state should respond to Justice Srikrishna committee’s report on division of the state.
“An all-party meeting will be called once political leaders (of different parties) offer their response to the Srikrishna committee’s findings. The Centre would then announce its decision,” Mr Chidambaram said.
When his attention was drawn on reports in a section of media, saying Home ministry officials have prepared a report to be sent to the President expressing inability to find a consensus on the Telangana issue and favouring continuation of the state in its present geographical form, the Union home minister said, “We have not prepared any such report or sent it to President. The Home ministry will not have any opinion on matters that come under the Union Cabinet.”
