Dinesh reddy is named as in-charge DGP
The state government on Monday issued orde-rs making V. Dinesh Reddy in-charge DGP (head of police force).
Chief Secretary Min-nie Mathew issued the GO stating that Mr Reddy “shall discharge functions of DGP (HoPF) but as a purely in-charge/officiating arrangement.”
The orders came on the directions of the High Court which stru-ck down the appointment of the DGP and directed the state to send a panel of eligible officers to the Union Public Service Commi-ssion. The state approa-ched the Supreme Court, but it refused to stay the HC orders.
The UPSC will send a panel of three officers out of whom the state will pick one officer as HoPF.
Sources told this newspaper that the government, which has been implementing the HC order after the SC refused to stay it, may seek legal remedy to avoid payment of costs of Rs 5,000 imposed by the HC for filing the writ petitions on “specious, artificial and extravagant grounds.”
Meanwhile, the revocation of suspension of senior cop Umesh Kumar would not be of much help as it came after the state government forwarded the panel of names.
Though the state included Mr Umesh Kumar's name, it clearly mentioned in the remarks column that he was under suspension.
