Dogs comb garbage, bite many
The GHMC’s failure to clear garbage on time has led to an increase in stray dog menace in many colonies, and along with it cases of dog bites.
According to residents, garbage, especially kitchen waste, littered on lanes and bylanes of the colonies attract stray dogs, and often lead to fights between them over leftover food. Besides creating more litter, residents often end up victims of dog bites.
While GHMC claims to have spent crores on sterilisation, vaccination and animal birth control programme on stray dogs over the last few years, neither the cases of dog bites nor their numbers have decreased. Recently, a stray dog created terror in Sainikpuri, biting three persons, including a child. While many strays can be seen in the colony, Mr V.V. Kishore, president of Classic Enclave Colony in Sainikpuri, said residents claim that particular dog was seen for the first time in the locality that day.
“Though GHMC teams came and captured stray dogs, that dog escaped. It might be creating terror in some other colony,” he said. This is hardly an isolated case, say residents in other colonies. “Dogs are multiplying. As garbage is not cleared on time, dogs fight over leftover food near bins,” LB Nagar resident Mr Jeevan Kumar said.
