Donations to TRS steadily grew
Individuals like Srinivasaraju Chalapathi, Jayasekhar Talluri of New York, Mukkamala Appa Rao of NRI Medical College, hotelier Mohammed Saleem of the city and B.C. Janardhan Reddy of Kurnool had donated above Rs 10 lakh to the Telugu Desam according to a report released by the Association of Democratic Rights after analysing the income-tax returns and donations received by the political parties. The TD, which had opposed the Polepally SEZ sanction to Aurobindo Pharma, had received Rs 20 lakh from it.
The donations to Telugu Desam by various companies have been fluctuating. In 2005, the Telugu Desam received Rs 7.42 crore which went up to Rs 8.92 crore in 2006-07 and Rs 12.3 crore in 2008-09. It again decreased to Rs 6.15 crore in 2010-11. Donations to the TD decreased in the last financial year. The ADR report says that TD has received huge donations from Nippon Investment, Bharathi Electoral trust, Teckare India Private Limited, Dream Land Ventures Private Limited of Vijayawada, Coroman-del Fertilisers, Solaris Holdings Limited of New Delhi, Robo Silicon of Hyderabad. The donations to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti steadily grew from 2005 from Rs 16 lakh to Rs 2.9 crore in 2009-10. A energy company, Sai Regency Power, donated Rs 1.2 crore to the Congress. Another energy company based in Jubilee Hills, KSK Energy Ventures, which runs power projects in Andhra Pradesh and other states, has donated Rs 2 crore to the Congress.
