Drive against fake number plates in city
Over 2,900 people who were sporting fake number plates have been caught during the special drive launched by the traffic police.
The traffic police had launched a drive against irregular number plates and documents two weeks back after a number of fake number plate related issues came to light. The police caught 2,984 vehicles with fake number plates and 10,878 cases were booked against drivers for non possession of essential documents.
Meanwhile, the traffic police has stressed that all drivers should carry original driving license and the Registration Certificate without fail. Xerox copies of these documents will not be enough.
The traffic police held meetings with number plate manufacturers and they were warned that if they encouraged or did not guide vehicle owners properly regarding correct number plates, they would be held responsible, and their shops will be shut down as mandated by law. Most people were booked for not having valid DLs.
