Drunken driver leads 14 to death
Fourteen persons were killed and one was injured when an “overloaded” lorry turned turtle near Bukkamuntalapadu under Nidamanoor mandal of Nalgonda district on Tuesday evening. The driver was “drunk,” cops said. Police said the lorry was on its way to Halia from Miryalaguda, carrying cement sacks and 16 men, when it overturned at around 5 pm. The injured was admitted to the government hospital at Miryalaguda. Some 10 sheep carried by the men also died.
Sub-divisional police officer B. Kavitha said driver Sreenu, a native of Kodad, was drunk. He was taken into custody. All the victims were going to their home in Halia after trading sheep at the Avantipuram market yard. One farmer, K. Venkateshwaralu, escaped without injuries,” said SI Suresh Kumar. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed his sympathies with the deceased’s families.
