Erring tech colleges let off easily
The state government has decided to go easy on engineering colleges that have resorted to irregularities in management quota admissions this academic year (2012-13), by issuing a simple warning.
The inspection teams constituted by the AP State Council of Higher Education found irregularities in procedures in 51 engineering colleges.
APSCHE issued show-cause notices to these colleges asking them to explain why action should not be initiated against them for flouting the rules issued to ensure transparency in management quota admissions.
But the government seems disinclined to pursue the matter and has let off 43 of 51 colleges, merely issuing a warning stating they have to face consequences if they repeat the same in future. It is yet to take a decision on eight colleges that had committed grave irregularities.
APSCHE has recommended cancelling admissions to these eight colleges. If the government approves APSCHE’s recommendations, about 2,000 students admitted to these eight colleges will have to look elsewhere.
