EVMs to show candidate for whom vote was cast
Allaying a common apprehension of voters, whether the vote they cast in the Electronic Voting Machine will register in the name of their chosen candidate, Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma said, “The voter can confirm the vote he cast for the candidate of his choice, as the symbol for which the vote is cast will be displayed on the screen attached to the EVM.”
Election Commissioner told mediapersons here on Friday that details like the time of casting the vote, the photograph of the voter and the symbol for which the vote is cast will be printed simultaneously, but the voter will not have access to this printout.
It will be used only in the event of the voter raising objections over the functioning of the EVM.
Mr Brahma who was here to review the preparedness of the state machinery for bypolls will also visit public sector undertaking Electronic Corporation of India Limited on Saturday to see the demonstration of the nextGen EVMs.
Leaders warned on mention of religion
Election Commissioner H.S. Brahma warned political leaders of serious action if they refer to religion in any form while addressing voters. Speaking to mediapersons here, Mr Brahma said the ED would 'come down heavily' against the leaders who seek votes using religion or even refer to it in any other form.
He was replying to a question on whether the EC would take action against leaders for cursing the rivals for not following particular practices and traditions in places of worship and thereby insulting another religion. CEO Bhanwar Lal brought to Mr Brahma’s notice about complaints pending with the EC for further action.
