Expose nexus: Jagan to family
The Supreme Court’s rejection of Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s bail plea and its ruling that his judicial remand should be continued at least till March 31, 2013 has come as a rude shock to both his family and YSR Congress leaders who were expecting his release on Friday.
Mr Reddy’s wife Bhara-thi Reddy and sister Sha-rmila Reddy met him on Friday at the Chancha-lguda prison and reportedly broke down.
Sources said Mr Reddy, who was initially disturbed over his bail plea being rejected by the apex court, comforted them, asking them to be brave.
He also asked Ms Sharmila Reddy to convey his message to their mother and YSR Congr-ess honorary president Y. S. Vijayalakshmi that he wanted them both to take up an extensive tour across the state, “to expose the nexus between the Congress, the CBI and the Telugu Desam” and confining him in prison for almost a year.
Following Mr Reddy’s instructions, senior party leaders and legislators plan to meet on Saturday and Sunday to take stock of the situation arising out of the SC decision and chalk out the tour to be undertaken by Ms Vijayalakshmi and Ms Sharmila Reddy.
Meanwhile, upon hearing the news of Mr Reddy’s bail being rejected, Ms Vijayalakshmi was said to be very upset and confined herself to her residence, spending the entire day in prayers.
A family source said Mr Reddy’s uncle Y.V. Subba Reddy, who was in Delhi assisting the lawyers, was unable to communicate the court orders to Ms Vijayalakshmi directly, sensing her mood.
Meanwhile, YSRC spok-esperson Ambati Ramb-abu told newsmen that the party was exploring the possibilities of filing a review petition against the apex court order.
He also appealed to the party cadre not to get disappointed but work with renewed vigour to strengthen the party.
“We are in touch with legal experts and are exploring options, including filing a review petition. We believe that the sequence of events that unfolded in Delhi on the eve of the verdict points raises suspicion of a conspiracy to hold Mr Reddy in jail for a longer period,” Mr Rambabu said.
Reacting to the SC judgment, he said “We are disappointed, but we have not lost hope.”
However, party leaders admit that Mr Reddy’s absence for at least ano-ther six months would be setback to the party that is grappling with infighting. with several aspirants for the party tickets for the 2014 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
“After the recent byelections, there was no major activity by the party. Gearing up the party to meet challenges is not an easy task, unless there is united effort and collective leadership,” admitted a member of party’s Political Affairs Committee.
