Fire at Secretariat damages computers
A minor fire broke out at the Secretariat’s B-block on Saturday. Ironically, the incident took place soon after Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy conducted a review meeting on fire safety measures at his chambers in C block. There was no damage to files or records due to the fire that broke out on the sixth floor of B block where the General Administration Department (GAD) is located.
According to officials, the fire broke out at around 3 pm due to a computer short circuit which spread to other computers. They said about 20 computers were affected though technical experts immediately brought the situation under control. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister reviewed the situation arising out of rainfall deficit, delayed monsoon, decreasing levels in reservoirs and prices of essential commodities with chief secretary Minnie Mathew and CMO officials. He asked them to take alternative measures to mitigate the problems of farmers and scarcity of drinking water. Ms Matthew informed that a high-level review meeting was held with Civil Supplies and marketing officials on price monitoring of essential commodities.
